Random Post

Hello all,

For some odd reason I feel the need to post the following things as "reminders" or "advice." It's said God works in mysterious ways right? Who knows?

Ok! So I think it is important to

  1. Brush your teeth as many times a day as possible. Why limit it to just twice a day? If you can do it after every meal, why wouldn't you? Everyone loves fresh breath =D
  2. Floss daily. Again why not twice a day? In the morning and before bed? It's advised that you floss before bed because it's during your sleep the crazy stuff happens in your mouth.
  3. Drink water!! Back in the day when I was younger (hahaha I just wanted to say that) I drank a lot more water and used a lot less pain killers. It was my modus operandi to only use pain killers for two things - toothaches and back aches. If it wasn't one of those, I would drink water and call it a day. My threshold for pain obviously was a lot higher then. I think I definitely will have to return to that...
  4. Learn to treat yourself, yourself. I'm all for pampering yourself, but why not do it yourself? You for one save money and two it's a good skill to use on other people. Learn to give yourself a pedicure, a manicure, your own make up, shape your own eyebrows, whatever...you get the picture. Why not learn to do it yourself? Plus it gives you something to do.
  5. Clean regularly. Don't wait for things to get dirty to clean. I think I need to keep telling myself this one lol. Don't wait till my room is like a sty to clean it. Take half an hour every day or every week and just clean. Vacuum the carpet, dust, laundry, fold clothes. There's so much to do and if you stay on top of it, you can't feel overwhelmed by it. Right?
  6. Challenge yourself creatively. I'm working on making a skirt from a shirt on my other blog [The Spotted Fashionista - http://thespottedfashionista.blogspot.com/ (Kerol this is for you lol)] I think this keeps me going, leeps my mind moving. I get bored easily. So whether it's sewing, baking, cooking, reading, writing, drawing, reworking your wardrobe, challenge yourself.
  7. Don't suppress your inner child. Why the frankincense would you want to do that? Take out a piece of paper and doodle, then get crayons and colour it. It's so healthy for you to be in touch with your inner child. Don't judge yourself and be a perfectionist. Let the imperfections shine through and embrace them. Who wants to be perfect anyway??
  8. Take a walk. Even if it's winter (amen it's spring now) open the window for a few minutes, take a walk. The "fresh" air will do you good.
  9. Sing.
  10. Dance
That's all I can come up with now. Get a glass of water and let's toast. To random posts that remind us of the simple things *Cheers!*

Some things are for dreamers

I was going to post this as my Facebook status but I changed my mind and decided to make a post about it here. I think there has only been once on this blog where I have ranted about things happening in my country. I think I may make it a habit to post my thoughts on development and my opinion as to how things can go. Of course I will have a disclaimer to say that I do not work with the government so I am not fully aware of how things work, but in my mind I wonder why this isn't happening.

I'm a bit tired right now, but I'm not pleased to know that I will be going to sleep with the thought of my dreams never materializing. It's a sad and scary thought: pondering whether the hopes, dreams and aspirations one has for a place so dear to her heart will ever materialized, and if so at what cost? Some days I wonder if I have lived on Earth already, in a past life, for the zeal and enthusiasm and understand that I believe I possess (I may be wrong and actually be naive) is out of this world. Why do I love my country so much? Why do I exude such national pride? I will have to investigate this. But until then, I'm off to la-la land to dream up more brilliant ideas about development that can be done the proper way for my country.

Good night my big dreamers, big workers, big motivators and big supporters. To the haters, see beyond what is in front of you. Have some vision.

Standing In The Sun Remembering You

and I
Frank
miss the feel of your skin
against mine.
The taste of sin
so concentrated
it paralyzes,
numbs out the world of righteousness.

The Power of Music

Last night I was on an amazing high. No, I did not smoke, drink, have sex or eat chocolate. I was just listening to some good music.

Growing up in the Saint Lucia I know and love Zouk music. I don't know anyone who doesn't like zouk, but I'm sure there are people who do. Anyway, last night my high came from listening to zouk and kompas for about 2 hours! Yes, yes, two hours isn't that much but two hours after finding great music on my external hard drive means the buzz of the discovery plus the ou-la-lar suave of the zouk meant that I was all smiles from ear to ear.

If you've never listened to zouk, or you can't get enough, here are a few links of some great songs. You don't have to know what they are saying for you to enjoy the music.

It's amazing how music can evoke mood. I hope you get up and bust a move to these tracks.

Feel free to share your favourite song(s) with me. You can post links to the videos or the Name and singer in the comments.

Blessed Love!

Malaika - Destiny

This song was used in a performance done for Cultural Outreach 2011. One of my favourites indeed. I hope you can enjoy it as much as I do :)

Learning To Say NO!

Well the more I live, the more I learn about myself. I am admitting that I have a problem saying no. I'm tempted right now to make excuses for inability to say no, but I shall fight temptation.

It's interesting that I can easily tell myself no but I can't reciprocate such strength towards others. I had a plan, that in my fourth year at university I would not get involved in any student political positions. I am now in the process of running for not one but TWO! What am I thinking? How am I going to do this??

I can't exactly say how, but I do know that I am challenging myself to do a few things:
1. To learn to delegate tasks. There are a number of reasons why delegation will work well and I won't go into it, but yes, delegate
2. Manage my time efficiently and effectively. Story of everyone' life - time management. I pray it all works out for the best.
3. Remain motivated all year round. This has been a tough one for me. As spring approaches I look back on the semester and remember my darkest moments when I felt like I couldn't go on and really didn't care. Those are the points when it was darkest...literally. Those harsh winter times when my sun loving self had no sun to love. Those are the times when I need to take Vitamin D supplements.
4. Be organised. Parallel to time management is organisational skills. I am organised except for my surroundings! That's where the organisation is needed. Everything has a place and everything should be in it's place.
5. I think the fifth and final thing challenging myself to do is SAY NO!!!

What's your weakness and how can you learn from it? Do feel free to share

When We Think We Are Alone

Sit from the tinted window
looking down at my world.
Observe me wander in circles,
stop momentarily
you hold your breath
in the hopes
that I will shed a tear.
And I feel it coming
as if probed by you
but come it never does,
so I continue walking in circles
intersecting another one.

Just Because

I feel like I haven't blogged in a while, so I will take some time today to ramble a little. Take some time to clear my head. It's been a crazy few weeks and the next few days are going to be even crazier. Organising a show such as Cultural Outreach is a great privilege and I am glad that I got the opportunity to do such. But with everything in life we cannot please everybody. So right now I am running into unpleased persons.

I think organising the show has really taught me a few lessons about myself.

The first thing I have learnt is that I need to learn to delegate more. I should not be so stressed if I am co-chairing this event. I should have delegated more responsibilities to more people from the beginning and that has added unnecessary weight to my plate.

The second thing I have learnt about myself is that I am an angry person. Or should I say I get angry too quickly. My fuse is short and sometimes the anger and disgruntlement lasts for a long period of time. I'm not sure how I go about fixing this. I have gotten angry and not reacted in anger, but instead calmed down before responding to the source of the anger. I think that's a good power. It's good to have the capacity to not react in anger but to stop, think logically and then respond. But what is wrong with expressing the emotion anger? Come to think of it, it's good to express anger. I guess the problem is not that I am expressing anger, but with the frequency and intensity of that anger. Yes. That sounds about right. But how does one deal with people who, as we say back home, rub you the wrong way? That is something I have to learn.

There might have been other lessons learnt but those are the ones I wanted to mention and possibly explore. In everything we do there are lessons to be learnt.

Happy school days!!
